A HOUSE flooded in Windle due to a build up of water from St Helens cemetery caused by the heavy rainfall.

Fire crews were called to the scene at 5.59am at Malt House Court, with two engines with pumps attending.

Crews found water from a nearby cemetery causing flooding to properties due to heavy rainfall.

Pumps were used to clear water from a number of properties at Malt House Court.

A statement from Merseyside Fire & Rescue Service read: "A multi-agency meeting was held with MFRS, St Helens Council's emergency response team, a contractor and United Utilities where an action plan was formulated.

"Sandbags and environmental protection equipment were used to help prevent further flooding and the incident was then sectorised with firefighters using different types of pumps to keep water down.

"A temporary traffic light system has been set up on Rainford Road to manage traffic in the area."
