ST HELENS Borough Council will hold a virtual children’s social worker recruitment event later this month.

Targeted at qualified social workers looking for a fresh challenge or those thinking of returning to the profession, the event is part of the council’s drive to raise standards in children’s services and ensure children and young people have a positive start in live, with team manager, advanced practitioner, and social worker positions available.

Social workers in St Helens Borough work in an environment that enables learning and development to ensure the right qualities are gained to support children and families - and are provided with the technology to work flexibly and from home to support a better work life balance.

St Helens Borough Council’s Social Work Assessment Service offers a strong programme of training and support for practitioners at all levels including a robust Assessed and Supported Year in Employment (AYSE) programme- and has continued to grow its offer to support the introduction of an Edge of Care Service, Complex Safeguarding Team and Child in Need Coordinator.

Encouraging people to attend, Simon Manseri, who has worked as a Principal Social Worker for St Helens Borough Council since September 2019, said: “I have loved being part of the St Helens team. What struck me initially was just how welcoming and helpful everyone was to me being a new starter.

“It is a really exciting time to come and join us at St Helens Borough Council as we continue to embark on our improvement journey. Whether you are an experienced social worker or newly qualified, there are learning and development opportunities for everyone.

"If you are looking for a new experience come along to our virtual recruitment event to meet members of the St Helens team.”

St Helens Borough Council’s Cabinet Member for Children and Young People, Councillor Nova Charlton, added: "We’ve already come a long way on our journey of improvement and to help us achieve our ambition, we’re looking for motivated, ambitious and skilled social workers to join our dedicated team which puts our most vulnerable children and young people at the heart of everything they do.

“We will offer you the tools and support you require to deliver positive outcomes for the children and young people in our borough, as well as a wide range of career opportunities.”

The recruitment event will take place via Microsoft Teams on Wednesday, January 27 between 1pm to 2pm and 6pm to7pm.
