FIREFIGHTERS spent more than three hours at the scene of a blaze that ripped through a former social club.
The blaze took hold at the derelict Haydock Catholic Club, Church Road, Haydock on Friday evening.
Dramatic pictures shared by residents showed flames and smoke coming from the building.
At one point, six fire engines were on the scene at the one-storey club site, which is about 50 metres by 40 metres.
Four firefighters entered the burning building wearing breathing equipment to search for any possible casualties and battle the fire from inside.
Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service later confirmed that no one was injured and the fire had been put out.
Their statement read: “The fire has been fully extinguished, the area has been fully damped down, hotspots dealt with and the building ventilated.
“Fire crews have left the scene, firefighting ceased at 8.32pm with all persons accounted for, no casualties.”
