A SUSPECTED thief desperately tried to discard food items he stole before crashing his car in Whiston late last night, Saturday.
Shortly after 11.30pm, police became involved in a chase with the driver of a black Nissan Juke after he failed to stop on Windy Arbour Road.
However, the suspect soon crashed the car at the junction of Lickers Lanes and Fox’s Bank Lane.
The driver was found to be discarding a pack of sausages into the nearby hedge, and officers recovered a number of food items which had been stolen from a local shop.
A 33-year-old man was arrested by police and it is alleged he later failed to provide a roadside breath specimen when asked.
The driver remains in custody as part of the investigation, which is ongoing.
