2020 has seen many of us adapting the way we work.

From working at home, to changing our roles entirely, it's a year none of us will forget in a hurry.

With lockdown 2.0 now over, and the tier system again in place, restrictions facing the hospitality industry have forced some to change their business to offer a substantial meal.

This has particularly affected drinking establishments such as pubs and bars, with venues serving substantial meals only being able to open until 11pm, with last orders for food and drink at 10pm.

It has meant some 'wet pubs' have had to closed their doors.

However, some have already implemented changes and brought in menus of "substantial meals" to offer thirsty – and hungry – punters.

One such venue is The Cricketers Arms.

Affectionately known as The Cricks, the Peter Street venue which won the title of Britain's Best Pub in 2018, is now offering meals such as steak and ale pie, chips and peas, and a large cheese board as options with a pint.

It's something they have never offered before, focusing previously on their large selection of drinks on offer.

The menu at The Cricketers Arms

Announcing the menu, landlord Andy Evans said: "Food to start with will be large steak and ale pies with chip shop mushy peas £5, please work with us and not against us and let’s be thankful that the pub can reopen.

"If we are not happy with customers breaking the rules we will not hesitate to close the pub."

Another venue which has added a food menu in order to reopen is Cinema Bar on Duke Street.

The popular bar has put a German twist on their menu offering items such as Bratwurst hotdogs, pretzels and more as substantial offerings with their drinks.

The extensive new menu has a lot of choice and even has a vegan menu.

Announcing the menu, owner Hannah McLoughlin said: "We are all excited to bring you something new to St Helens. Here's our twist on bar food, German style. We even have a tasty vegan menu.

"This is all new to us, so please be kind and understanding of our limited menu at these times.

"So come on down for good vibes, some great food and premium drinks.

"Also we would like to remind you all, that tier 2 restrictions still apply.

"Please bring along your mask, sanitise your hands and wait at the door to be seated. Track and trace is in place. Looking forward to seeing you all. PROST"
