THE family of an "inspirational" fundraiser who raised money for charity while battling terminal prostate cancer have paid tribute to him following his death.

Dad-of-two Steven Roger Hunt was diagnosed with terminal prostate cancer six years ago – but he did not let the illness stop him.

Despite undergoing gruelling treatments such as chemotherapy and radiotherapy to fight the disease, Ste focused on his fitness, regularly attending Queen’s Park leisure centre.

He also took part in several fundraising events.

This included two St Helens 10ks, where he ran as a member of Team Hunt, a group organised by his nephew Mark Hunt, to raise funds for the Steve Prescott Foundation.
Mark Hunt, a personal trainer, said: “Ste was determined to focus on his fitness and carry on with things.

"If me or his sons Martin and Jamie ever got upset about his diagnosis he always told us to stay positive and that’s what he did.

"He really challenged himself too, he took part in two St Helens 10ks with Team Hunt, and he beat me.

“Last year, unfortunately he wasn’t well enough to do it but he was a big supporter of the SPF and left instructions for any donations in his name to go to the foundation."

After years of battling, Ste, 54, died on Sunday, November 29 in Whiston Hospital. He had previously also received care at Willowbrook Hospice.

Mark added: "Ste was strong, positive and most of all inspirational. He was a huge Saints fan and was made up to watch them win the grand final on Friday just days before he died.

"His sons, brother Arthur, me and my boys, Josh 12 and Elliot, two, will really miss him as will his cousin Deb McKenna who he was close to and helped care for him, as did his ex-wife Sharon Cunliffe who he stayed great friends with.

“We would like to thank Alex Kelleher was the nurse from Whiston who went above and beyond for Ste and our family and everyone at Whiston Hospital and Willowbrook for the care they gave him.”

Ste’s funeral will take place on Tuesday, December 8 at Greenacres at 9.30am. The hearse will leave his home on Lingmell Avenue at 8.45am.

Steven will be carried by his sons Martin and Jamie, brother Arthur, nephew Mark, his great nephew Josh and his cousin John Brian.

Donations are to go to the Steve Prescott Foundation.
