A POPULAR pub has been granted permission to create a conservatory extension to the back of its premises.

The Cricketers Arms, on Peter Street, submitted plans for the removal of its outdoor seating area to create an outbuilding.

Plans, drawn up by landlord Andy Evans, say the conservatory will be known as The Taverners Room.

The proposed single storey building is to be situated to the rear of the building in an area currently occupied by wooden seating.

An officer's report on the plans says: "The proposal seeks to demolish the existing wooden outside seating area directly to the rear of the public house, and erect a single storey detached outbuilding that would connect to the existing events building.

It adds: "The proposed design would aid in reducing the potential for noise and disturbance as it will be of a brick built construction and therefore would act as a noise insulator".

It states the proposed building will take "the last of the real usable space" in the outdoor area, "but would still allow a 1m wide path to the side car park area to allow for the delivery of kegs/crates of beers to the rear cellar area".

The application was granted approval.
