EVERY month, the Warrington Guardian takes a look back at some of the most shocking and bizarre crimes reported to police in the town over the past few weeks.

Here are seven such incidents from Warrington during November:

Delivery driver kidnapped

One of the most disturbing incidents this month came early on Saturday, November 21, when a delivery driver was kidnapped by carjackers.

He was parked up on Keckwick Lane in Daresbury shortly after 7.30am when he was attacked.

The two robbers commandeered his van before driving him around 17 miles to Liverpool.

They dropped the victim off near to the junction of the East Lancs Road and the M57 before making off with his vehicle and its contents.

Guns stolen during burglary

A suspect has been arrested and charged after several firearms were stolen during a burglary in Culcheth.

Keith Stewart was detained by police on the morning of Wednesday, November 11, in connection with the break-in – which occurred at a property on Shaw Street last month.

At around 8pm on October 14, a gun cabinet containing five shotguns and a laptop were stolen from the address.

The 55-year-old, of Flixton in Manchester, has since been charged with burglary, possession of a shotgun without a certificate and possession of a firearm when prohibited for life.

He is due to appear at Liverpool Crown Court next month in order to face these charges.

Cannabis farms discovered

A huge cannabis farm was discovered on Museum Street in the town centre on Monday, November 16 – only metres away from Warrington Police Station.

Officers executed the search warrant at the premises, near to Warrington Museum, at around 9.30am and discovered a number of plants growing inside.

Warrington Guardian:

No arrests were made in connection with the raid.

The remnants of a cannabis farm were also found in an abandoned house on Cavendish Close in Old Hall a week later on Monday, November 23.

Police had been called at the request of a housing association, with equipment used in the cultivation of the class B drug discovered inside.

Warrington Guardian:

Fines for lockdown breaches

Cheshire Police handed out several fines for breaches of the second coronavirus lockdown in Warrington during the month.

On Thursday, November 12, officers attended the home of a beautician in the town who was operating her business from the address.

She was fined £1,000, while a client who was also present was given a penalty notice of £200.

Police then shut down a house party at an unnamed property on the evening of Saturday, November 21.

Fines were issued to six people who were present at the gathering.

Guns found buried in back garden

Loaded guns and ammunition were found buried in the back garden of a house on Selworth Drive in Thelwall on Monday, November 9.

The National Crime Agency carried out the raid as part of an investigation into the ‘large scale supply of firearms’.

Two packages found in the garden contained a loaded Smith and Wesson 9mm semi-automatic pistol, a Grand Power semi-automatic pistol, a suppressor and around 100 rounds of ammo.

Warrington Guardian:

It is believed that the property is linked to Robert Brazendale, a 33-year-old man who was arrested on the Costa del Sol on a European Arrest Warrington as part of the probe in October.

Drugs recovered during stop and search

Police seized hundreds of wraps of heroin and crack cocaine after a suspected drug dealer was stopped and searched on Amelia Street in Orford.

Officers arrested the 43-year-old man on the morning of Tuesday, November 17, and recovered a ‘large amount’ of class A drugs.

Warrington Guardian:

David Sherratt, of Marsh House Lane in Orford, has since been charged with possession of heroin and crack cocaine with intent to supply in connection with the incident.

Hit and run arrest

Two young boys were struck by a car during a hit and run on Capesthorne Road in Orford on Sunday, November 22.

The 11-year-old and 12-year-old were involved in a ‘minor collision’ near to the junction with Poplars Avenue at around 6pm.

They were checked over by paramedics at the scene, but were not taken to hospital.

Tracey Williams, of Capesthorne Road, has since been charged with failing to stop after a collision and drink driving in connection with the incident.

The 58-year-old will appear before Warrington Magistrates Court in December.
