THIEVES are targeting cars across St Helens, police have warned.

Officers have fired out a warning to vehicle owners after a surge of thefts.

Cars have been stolen and crooks are also breaking into vehicles and targeting possessions.

Police have not given specific locations but the spate of thefts has prompted them to issue a security message to “all vehicle owners”.

In a statement, police said: “We are urging you to make sure your vehicles are being left in a secure location and locked at all times, with nothing on display to prevent this happening to you.

“If you notice any suspicious behaviour don't hesitate report it to 101.”
