ONE person has been rescued by firefighters after a blaze broke out at a block of flats this evening.

Fire crews were called shortly before 3.50pm to the address on Havanah Lane, in Parr.

Firefighters wearing breathing equipment went inside and brought one resident to safety, a spokesperson for Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service said.

The casualty has been taken to hospital for "further assessment".

Firefighters have now tackled the blaze.

Four engines were called to the scene. A number of police cars were also present, with a cordon set up at the scene.
