A FIRM which continued to bring the famous 'Pimmies' pies taste to St Helens is looking for a new owner.

'Pimmies Pies' was launched nearly 12 years ago, following the closure of 87-year-old iconic firm Pimbletts, offering steak nā€™ gravy and meat nā€™ potato pies with a remarkably similar taste to the former local favourites.

Based at Jackson Street, the firm was named after the nickname given to the local favourite delicacies.

Director Arthur Bevan, now 70, is set to retire and is looking to hand over the reins to a new owner to carry the mantle and continue to deliver those delicious peppery pies.

Arthur, a former meat supplier, who was one of the businessmen behind the venture based at Jackson Street Industrial Estate.

"I have a lot of memories, I'm proud of what we have done, I'm made up with it," said Arthur.

"There is no way I would even think of selling it if I was younger.

"There is lots of potential in the business to keep on going, it's surprising how much potential that there is."

There are seven members of staff other than Arthur at the firm and he says he would be willing to train any new buyer and show them the ropes.

He added: "It's ideal for somebody who can do cakes and things, we don't do much in cake lines, it's mostly pies. There are lots of things you could do.

"It would be nice for somebody from the St Helens area to do it.

"I don't mind teaching somebody to do the job, it isn't rocket science, they can be a complete novice."
