A DOG has been rescued after the police and the RSPCA executed a warrant at a house.

Officers and the RSPCA attended an address on Bank Street, Newton-le-Willows on the morning of Friday, November 13.

A police spokeswoman said the force attended the address to provide assistance to the animal welfare charity.

The matter is currently subject to an investigation by the RSCPA.

A statement from St Helens Police after the rescue said: "Our Local Policing team in company with colleagues from the RSPCA have executed a warrant under the Wildlife and Countryside Act.

"With assistance from our colleagues at the RSPCA a dog was seized that will now receive medical care and assessment, the investigation into this is currently ongoing.

An RSPCA spokesman added: “The RSPCA and Merseyside Police executed a warrant under the Wildlife and Countryside Act at an address in Newton-le-Willows and a dog was seized at the property which is now in the care of the animal welfare charity.

“We are unable to comment further while enquiries continue.”
