THE Steve Prescott Bridge was lit amber last night to mark seven years since the great man's passing.
The colour was to raise awareness of pseudomyxoma peritonei, the rare cancer Steve battled for seven years from the original diagnosis in September 2006.
Steve, who played full back for Saints, Hull and Wakefield, died in November 2013 after a ground-breaking operation rid his body of the cancer - only to succumb to graft versus host.
His battle never to give up in the face of this horrendous disease did, however, create a pathway for others to follow - and that pioneering surgery has been used successfully since on other patients.
But more than that, the way he battled his illness - with his challenges - and the pride he had in his home town have left a lasting legacy.
St Helens Council leader David Baines tweeted: "Tonight we’ve lit the Steve Prescott Bridge here in StHelens amber for #pseudomyxoma awareness, marking 7 years since we sadly lost the great man. We miss Steve so much, and we’re so grateful for his incredible legacy."
