POLICE have arrested a 28-year-old after an elderly man was attacked in Latchford.

They held him at Kingsway South this morning, Wednesday.

As reported by the Warrington Guardian earlier this week, the 81-year-old was attacked near to the Classic Home Improvements store on Knutsford Road last Thursday,  October 22 between 1.30pm and 1.45pm.

The victim sustained injuries to his knee and ear, which didn’t require hospital treatment, in what police say was an unprovoked attacked.

There were a number of witnesses in the area at the time who stopped to help the victim including a cyclist who offered to call the police.

Officers are keen to speak to the cyclist as they may have information, which could assist the investigation.

Sergeant Chris Webster, from Warrington Local Policing Unit, said: “This was a shocking and unprovoked assault on an elderly man and since it was reported to us we have been following a number of lines of enquiry.

“I know there were people in the area at the time who spoke to the victim and may have seen what took place.

“I am keen to hear from those people, in particular a cyclist who offered to call the police at the time, as you may be able to help our investigation.”

The 28-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of assault and remains in custody for questioning.
