A 22-YEAR-old student nurse is celebrating after working on the ward she was treated on for childhood leukaemia in Alder Hey Children's Hospital.
Aged 15, Abi Duffy from Sutton Manor was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukaemia.
She was treated on Ward 3B at Alder Hey Children's Hospital where she had four rounds of chemotherapy before being given the all clear.
Now aged 22, Abi, who is is studying a BSc Honours degree in Paediatric Nursing at Edge Hill University, started her first placement shift on the same ward she was treated on at Alder Hey this week.
Although her resilience and compassion are reasoning for such a fantastic achievement, Abi credits the Alder Hey staff that treated her for her decision to go into the "special" career of nursing.
She said: "Why would you not want to be a nurse after being treated by those guys at 3B? I feel so much gratitude towards the way I was treated, I felt part of a family."
