A MAN has been charged with attempted murder in connection with a stabbing in Sutton.

Phillip David Jones, 43, has been charged in connection with an incident on Walter Grove, Sutton in January during which a woman suffered multiple stab wounds.

Police and paramedics attended a property on the afternoon of Friday, January 24 at around 12.30pm.

A woman in her 30s was treated for multiple stab wounds to her back and was taken to hospital where her condition was serious but not life-threatening.

A man in his 40s was also found with stab wounds to his chest and lacerations to his legs and left arm.

He was also taken to hospital, with his condition described as serious but not life-threatening.

St Helens Star:

Police arrested a 42-year-old man in connection with the incident and he was since detained under the Mental Health Act and transferred to hospital for treatment.

Police have confirmed they have now charged Jones, who address was listed as Guild Park, Cumeragh Lane, Preston, with attempted murder in connection with the stabbing.

A Merseyside Police spokeswoman said: "We can confirm a man has been charged with attempted murder in connection with an incident in St Helens on Friday, January 24.

"Shortly after 12.30pm, officers were called to a house in Walter Grove following reports a woman in her 30s had suffered multiple stab wounds.

"The woman was treated by ambulance staff for stab wounds to her back and was taken to hospital where her condition was described as serious but not life-threatening.

"Forty-three-year-old Phillip David Jones was charged with attempted murder, and has been detained under the Mental Health Act until his next court appearance in November."
