POLICE arrested a man in the town centre in the early hours of this morning, Saturday.
Officers from the Emergency Incident Response and Targeted teams were dispatched to Ward Street after receiving a number of emergency calls.
At the scene, police arrested a man on suspicion of racially aggravated criminal damage and section four public order - threatening behaviour or intent to cause someone to fear – as well as for affray and possession of an offensive weapon.
Officers also seized a knife and a large metal pole.
St Helens Police said: “Targeted Team officers and Emergency Incident Response Team officers responded to Ward Street, St Helens, during the early hours of this morning after a number of emergency calls were received.
“Enquiries at scene were made, resulting in one adult male arrested on suspicion of racially aggravated section four public order, racially aggravated criminal damage, affray and possession of an offensive weapon.
“A knife and large metal pole were recovered that were used in the offence.
“Knives have no place on our streets.”
