A TOTAL of 89 new cases of coronavirus have been confirmed in just 24 hours across Cheshire East and West boroughs.

The latest figures from Public Health England show that as of 9am today, September 30, there had been 2,728 confirmed cases of Covid-19 in Cheshire West compared to 2,679 at the same time on Tuesday – an increase of 49.

That is a higher increase in cases than in the 24 hours before then, when 44 cases were confirmed across the borough, which includes Northwich and Winsford.

Meanwhile in Cheshire East – which includes Knutsford, Wilmslow and Middlewich – there had been 2,956 confirmed cases of coronavirus as of 9am this morning.

That was an increase of 40 over the same time on Tuesday, and the second day running that 40 new cases had been added to the total.

It comes as Cheshire councils are considering their options with rates of coronavirus continuing to rise, with CWAC agreeing on Monday to look into the possibility of tighter restrictions.

Council leaders are now in discussions with MPs over what their next step should be.
