EVENT organisers are hoping that a new scarecrow competition could spread some cheer across Rudheath and Witton this October.

Residents are being encouraged to get creative and make an autumn or Halloween-themed scarecrow or window display, which will create a trail in the community.

The best entries will win Love2Shop vouchers – with a first prize of £100, £50 for the runner-up and £25 for the third-placed entry.

"We’re so excited to launch this competition for the community," said Zoe Cadman, chairman of Rudheath and Witton Together, which is running the competition.

"Hopefully it will bring some cheer, fun and creativity during these difficult times."

The scarecrows will be judged by members of Rudheath and Witton Together, primary school children, Cllr Helen Treeby and Lee Catterall from Little Owls Pre-School and Nursery.
