MORE than 250 cases of coronavirus were recorded in the borough over the previous three days' figures since Friday.
There were 90 COVID-19 cases recorded on Friday, followed by 68 on Saturday and 109 in Sunday’s figures.
The rates have increased over recent days, with 66 having been recorded last Thursday.
Last week, it was announced the borough was to be placed back under local restrictions from Saturday, September 26.
The borough will now face the same restrictions as the rest of the region.
This means residents in these areas must not socialise with other people outside of their own households or support bubble in private homes and gardens.
Locals are also advised only to use public transport for essential purposes, such as travelling to school or work, and avoid attending amateur sporting events.
People are also advised to avoid mixing in public venues too.
The latest figures mean that up to Sunday, 3,361 people in the borough have been confirmed as testing positive for COVID-19 since the start of the pandemic.
The total rate of infection in Wigan borough since the start of the outbreak now stands at 1,022.6 cases per 100,000 people, higher than the England average of 669.8.
