A NORTHWICH dad has completed the first two marathons in his quest to run a total of 14 to raise money for the hospital that saved his daughter's life.

Mark Roberts, 33, decided he wanted to show his appreciation for the staff at Liverpool Women's Hospital, by running a marathon for each of nights his daughter Darcey spent in their care.

Darcey, who turns one next month, is now thriving, and so is Dad Mark, who completed the first of his marathon's on August 31, and crossed the finishing line on number on Sunday (September 27).

Wife Cara, 32, said the couple had been moved by the support they've had from local people, with Mark already raising almost £4500, which is significantly more than his original target of £3,354.

Cara said: "He’s now up to £4.5k and only a few months in.

"Rick Dickens, who's running a 5k a day heard about it and is running with Mark, which I just think is incredible that local dads are coming together.

"He’s also inspired friends who’ve never run before to train and run with him.

"He’s using the hashtag #daddypower because so many dads are joining him on his marathons and also training runs.

Mark plans on completing the 14th and last of his marathons on Darcey's second birthday, on October 27 next year.

With organised marathons currently off the agenda due to Covid19, Mark is running his own, with the route of the last planned to go from Northwich to the Women's hospital in Liverpool.

Cara went on: "Another local business, Performance Evolution owned by Richard Yarwood also got in touch with mark and his supporting him with training free of charge.

"I just wanted to update you on the amazing support he’s had from local people."
