POLICE attended a property after receiving reports of a man forcing his way into a property who was suspected to be armed with a gun.

Officers were called to a property on Recreation Street, Fingerpost during the early hours of last Friday (September 25).

Residents reported seeing police called to the area during the night.

Police say they had received reports of an aggravated burglary in which a man had entered the house of a woman armed with a suspected firearm.

They say the incident is believed to be "domestic related".

A Merseyside Police spokeswoman said: "We can confirm officers attended reports of an aggravated burglary in St Helens in the early hours of Friday, September 25.

"At 12.41am, it was reported a man had entered a property on Recreation Street armed with a suspected firearm.

"The occupant, a woman in her 30s, called the police and the man left on foot in an unknown direction. The incident is believed to be domestic related.

"Following enquiries, a 39-year-old man was arrested in connection with the incident, however was later released without charge."

It is understood police did not find any weapon after being called to the incident.
