A THIEF who damaged a police car and was drunk disorderly while serving a suspended sentence has been put behind bars.

Shane Wilson, of Phoenix Brow, St Helens, was sentenced to 20 weeks in jail at Liverpool, Knowsley and St Helens Magistrates' Court.

Wilson, 33, was found to be drunk and disorderly on North Road, St Helens on Monday, August 31.

On the same date he also caused criminal damage to a police vehicle.

Wilson committed the offences while serving a suspended sentence for thefts, which was imposed on May 14.

The 33-year-old had been given an eight-week sentence, suspended for a year, for each of three thefts. He stole a bottle of Glenfiddich whisky and a bottle of Gordon's Pink Gin on March 13 from Tesco.

He also stole six jars of coffee from B&M on March 29 and 24 jars of coffee from Aldi on May 13.
