ST HELENS Council has revealed the latest coronavirus infection rate for the borough and a breakdown of cases by ward and age.

Between Sunday, September 13 and Saturday 19 there were 201 positive cases of COVID-19 recorded in St Helens.

This gives a rolling seven-day rate of infection of 111.6 per 100,000 of the population, a slight increase on the previous published rate.

Out of the 16 constituent wards in the borough, Earlestown had the highest number of cases for the seven-day period with 28, which equates to a rate of 240.2 per 100,000.

Thatto Heath is the second highest with 23 cases, a rate of 175.8.

Meanwhile, Newton ward has had 21 cases, a rate of 168.4.

Other wards with a rate of more than 100 per 100,000 are Eccleston, Haydock, Sutton, Rainhill, Rainford, Parr and Billinge and Seneley Green.

The ward with the fewest cases was Moss Bank with three, a rate of 27.1 per 100,000.

West Park had four cases (35.1 per 100,00) and Blackbrook (68.4) and Bold (70.6) seven each.

There were 102 males who tested positive and 99 females.

Meanwhile, of the 201 confirmed cases during the period, 59 were among 18 to 29-year-olds, the age group with the highest number.

The second highest group was 45 to 59-year-olds with 55 cases and then 30 to 44-year-olds with 48 positive cases.

There were 20 cases among children (ages nought to 17) and 16 cases among 60 to 79-year-olds.

There were three cases among those aged 80 or older.
