POLICE have given an update on their investigation after a 14-year-old girl died after being knocked down by a car.

The 14-year-old died after being knocked down on Blackbrook Road, Blackbrook at about 9.50pm on Saturday.

The youngster, whose identity has not been officially released, was taken to hospital but later died in hospital.

Police arrested two men, aged 18 and 19, on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

A Merseyside Police spokeswoman has confirmed that the two suspects have been released under investigation as enquiries continue.

Since the girl's death, friends have been placing tributes beside a stone wall near to the scene of the fatal impact.

Witness appeal signs have been placed in Blackbrook, about 20 metres from the Ship Inn pub.

A Merseyside Police statement read: “Officers are keen to speak to anyone who witnessed the incident, or has any information, CCTV, or dashcam footage.”
