A PENSIONER was left with a cut lip and swelling after being punched in the head after an altercation with two teenagers.

A 71-year-old man was taken to hospital after he was punched on Marsden Avenue, Old Eccleston on Tuesday afternoon (September 15).

Police say the assault on the man took place after an altercation with two teenage boys, believed to be aged around 14 and 18.

The man sustained a cut lip and swelling to his head due to the assault.

He was later discharged from hospital, police say.

A Merseyside Police spokesman said: "We are appealing for information after a report a man was assaulted during an incident on Tuesday (September 15).

"We received a report just before 5.20pm that a 71-year-old man was punched to the head after an altercation with two males aged around 14 and 18. The victim was left with a cut lip and swelling to his head.

"Officers attended and took the victim to hospital for assessment. He was later discharged.

"Enquiries to establish the full circumstances are ongoing, and officers are pursuing lines of enquiry regarding the identity of those involved. We have spoken to witnesses and are going through CCTV footage."
