HERE are the details of five cases which have appeared before Liverpool, Knowsley and St Helens Magistrates' Court recently:

  •  A DRINK driver was given a fine and disqualified from the road for 12 months.

Walter Duncan, of Wythburn Crescent, Carr Mill pleaded guilty to driving a vehicle on Hard Lane, Dentons Green on January 25 while in excess of the alcohol limit.

Duncan, 71, had 133 milligrams of alcohol per 100 millilitres of blood in his system, in excess of the limit.

The 71-year-old was fined £120, made to pay a £32 surcharge to victim services and £85 in costs to the CPS making £237 in total.

He was given a 12 month disqualification from driving. This will be reduced, if by Match 19, 2021, Duncan completes a course approved by the Secretary of State.

  •  A 28-YEAR-OLD man has admitted having a baton with him in public in St Helens and using threatening words or behaviour.

Josh Lewis Evans, of Princes Avenue, Atherton, pleaded guilty to using threatening words or behaviour to another person on April 25 in St Helens.

He also indicated a guilty plea to having an offensive weapon, namely a baton, on him on King Street, St Helens on the same date.

Karl Lancaster, of no fixed address, pleaded guilty to possession of a black handled knife in a public place in St Helens on August 18.

Lancaster was given a 22-week jail sentence, suspended for 12 months. A court document said only a custodial sentence was justified taking into account the minimum mandatory sentence for a "second knife offence".

Lancaster must also have treatment for drug dependency and take part in up to 20 days' rehabilitation activity.

He was also made to pay a £128 surcharge to victim services and £85 in costs to the CPS, making a total of £213. The court ordered for the knife to be destroyed.

Richards is also charged with using threatening words or behaviour.

The case will next be heard at Liverpool Crown Court on Thursday, September 17. Richards was given unconditional bail until then.

  •  A 36-YEAR-OLD man accused of several assaults on a woman and making threats and causing criminal damage has appeared in court.

Brennan has pleaded not guilty to all charges.

The 36-year-old has been given conditional bail and will appear back at the court on November 16 for trial.
