A MAN was slashed with a knife after being chased by his attacker in park land.

The 22-year-old man suffered lacerations to an arm and a leg in the attack in Blackbrook on Saturday.

It was reported there were two offenders in a car. One one got out of the vehicle and chased the victim and attacked him at park land in Blackbrook with a knife, causing lacerations to his arm and leg.

The man presented himself at the walk-in service at the Millennium Centre on Corporation Street in St Helens town centre at around 3.20pm stating he had been slashed.

Emergency services were then alerted and the man was taken to hospital.

He has since been discharged.

Police say they saw a vehicle in the area near to the attack later in the day at 6.30pm, and following a foot pursuit detained a suspect.

A 23-year-old man from Dentons Green was arrested on suspicion of wounding in connection with the attack.

He has been released on conditional bail.

Detective Sergeant Kirsty Miller said: “The people of St Helens know all too well the dangers posed by the carrying of knives on our streets.

“We will continue our efforts to take knives out of the hands of those who risk the lives of themselves and others by carrying weapons, and to put those people behind bars.

“If you have information about people carrying or storing weapons, please help us make St Helens safer by speaking to police so that we can take positive action.”
