PLANS have been drawn up to build a two-storey building for retail use and flats.

Proposals have been submitted by applicant Tyrone Hamnett for the creation of a building on unused land at the site of the former 4 Queen Street, Newton-le-Willows, near to Earlestown town centre.

The site is on the opposite side of the road from FW Marsh funeral directors and the entrance to Earlestown train station.

A design and access statement document in the plans says: "This statement supports a full planning application by Mr Tyrone Hamnett for the rebuilding of a three-storey building containing retail/office use together with two one-bedroom flats".

It adds the site "is surrounded by a mix of commercial, residential and retail premises" and has been "left vacant for a number of years".

The statement concludes "the development of the site would make efficient use of derelict land and significantly enhance the local area" and "would provide excellent employment and housing opportunities for the local community".

Plans are on consultation until Tuesday, September 1.

A determination deadline on the application has been set for October 5.
