POLICE have charged a man with aggravated vehicle taking and dangerous driving after officers pursued a suspected stolen car through St Helens.

The suspected stolen Ford Focus crashed during an early hours police chase on Thursday, August 13.

Officers followed the suspected stolen Ford Focus, with the pursuit taking in Horace Street, Cambridge Road, Kitchener Street, Boundary Road, Knowsley Road, Dunriding Lane and Laurel Road.

The car eventually crashed and a suspect attempted to make off but was detained, said police.

Officers arrested a 23-year-old man from Parr on suspicion of offences including aggravated vehicle taking and dangerous driving, who was taken into custody.

Police have since charged Zach Dowling, 23, of Winter Grove, Parr with aggravated vehicle taking and dangerous driving; driving with no insurance and failing to provide a blood specimen to officers.

Dowling was remanded into custody to appear at Merseyside Magistrates' Court.
