A SUSPECTED stolen car crashed during an early hours police chase.

Officers followed the suspected stolen Ford Focus ST in St Helens in the early hours of Thursday, August 13.

The car eventually crashed and a man attempted to make off but was detained, say police.

Officers arrested a 23-year-old man from Parr on suspicion of aggravated vehicle taking; dangerous driving; failing to stop; drink driving; driving whilst unfit through drink or drugs; driving otherwise than in accordance with a licence and driving without third party insurance.

He was taken into custody.

St Helens Police said: "In the early hours of (Thursday) morning, Targeted Team officers pursued a stolen Ford Focus ST in St Helens.

"After colliding with some street furniture, the 23-year-old, from Parr, was quickly arrested.

"He has been arrested on suspicion of aggravated vehicle taking, dangerous driving, fail to stop, drink driving, driving whilst unfit through drink or drugs, driving otherwise than in accordance with a licence and driving without third party insurance.

"The suspect remains in police custody at this time, and the vehicle will be returned to its owner."
