WARRINGTON Wolves will have Ben Murdoch-Masila available for Saturday’s clash with Huddersfield Giants.

Head coach Steve Price confirmed the second rower will make his first appearance since Super League restarted after recovering from the ankle injury that kept him out of Saturday’s 40-10 win over Hull Kingston Rovers.

The Wire have no fresh injury concerns, meaning changes to the squad are likely to be minimal although a replacement will be needed for centre Anthony Gelling.

Price confirmed the club will not be contesting Gelling’s two-match penalty notice for the dangerous lift on Rovers second rower Matthew Gee that saw him sin-binned on Saturday.

“Ben will definitely be playing this week. We’re excited to have the big fella back,” Price said.

“We decided to cop Anthony’s two-week suspension, so he will be missing.

“Rotation is something I’ll be looking at as we get into the fixtures.

“At present, though, we’ve got a really strong squad and its not crossing my mind at the moment.

“As the schedule gets crammed, I’m confident in what we have in the squad to be able to do that.”

Gelling’s suspension creates a conundrum around the right centre position.

A popular option among supporters would be moving Stefan Ratchford into the centres with Matty Ashton coming in at full-back.

Keanan Brand provides another option while Murdoch-Masila’s return could see Jack Hughes moved into the outside backs, with the Tongan lining up in the second row.

With one more training session until the game, however, Price would not be drawn on what route he would go down.

“I’ve got a few decisions to make later on in the week with which way we’ll go in terms of that centre position,” he said.

“I was really pleased with Stef on Saturday. It was a really polished display.

“He came up with some big plays and some solid try-savers for us.

“I’m also excited by what Matty Ashton has brought to our team in the short amount of time he’s been back since Covid.”
