A PUB is seeking permission for a side extension and the creation of an outdoor terrace seating area and car park.

The proposals for the Cowley Vaults pub on Cooper Street have been submitted to the council by owner Daryl Arrowsmith, who also has the nearby Turks Head.

The plans seek approval for a single-storey side extension to the Cowley Vaults with a flat roof and glass lantern and for an outdoor seating terrace to the back of the pub and a car park.

The pub currently only has street parking.

The plans state: "The application site comprises of Morley Street to the west and a large grassed area to the side and rear.

"The Cowley Vaults pub is located to the south west of the plot fronting Cooper Street and has an outdoor seating area with yard to the rear.

"The building is currently a thriving public house popular with the locals, at present it has a relatively small amount of seating and a footprint of approximately 250sqm".

The application adds: "It is proposed to add a single storey side extension to allow for additional seating with bifold doors that will be closed and locked by 11pm, even though the beer garden will still be accessible at this time.

"Two walls will be built to semi enclose the proposed seating area to the rear, a new opening to the rear wall of the pub will allow for bifolding doors and will act as the main access to this area".

The plans are on public consultation until Tuesday, August 25.

A determination deadline for the plans has been set for September 29.
