ONE person was taken to hospital after emergency services were called to a crash on St Helens Linkway West.

Police and ambulance were called to junction of St Helens Linkway West and Canal Street at midday today (Friday, August 7) to a report of a three-car collision.

The crash involved a BMW, a Vauxhall Corsa and a Ford Mondeo.

One lane has been closed due to the collision on the A58 Linkway West westbound from Cannington Roundabout to Chalon Way West (near to the Cineworld traffic lights).

There is congestion up to the Sherdley Roundabout. Traffic is said to be coping well.

A Merseyside Police spokesman said: "Police and ambulance were called to junction of St Helens Linkway West and Canal Street at midday today (Friday, August 7) to a report of a collision involving a BMW, Vauxhall Corsa and Ford Mondeo.

"The vehicles will be recovered and road is currently closed."

A spokeswoman for North West Ambulance said two people were treated at the scene, with one taken to hospital.

She said: "We were called at 12.02pm and attended with two ambulances to the scene.

"We treated two patients, only one was taken to hospital." 

A police spokesman added injuries sustained were not believed to be serious.
