STAR readers have reacted to the news that a popular pub in the town has voluntarily closed as a precaution after a member of staff had tested positive for coronavirus.

The Star reported yesterday that the Gerard Arms on Dentons Green Lane has closed to allow a deep clean to take place and for other staff members to be tested.

A sign has been placed on the door reading; 'Closed for Covid cleaning'.

On the closure, a spokesperson for the Gerard said to the Star: “We have taken swift action after one of our team received a positive test result for COVID-19 and have followed all the government guidelines on what to do in this scenario.

"We decided to temporarily close the pub as a precaution to allow a deep clean to take place and to allow other team members to take tests.

"We have a number of social distancing measures in place in our pub as well as rigorous hygiene and cleanliness routines as part of our Pub Safe promises to teams and customers.

"We will be reopening once we are satisfied that it is safe to do so.”
