HEAVY roadworks over the weekend led to some drivers taking up to 30 minutes to travel up the linkway and through retail parks.
Residents and travellers took to social media to share their shock at the queues of traffic both on St Helens Linkway and throughout Ravenhead Retail Park on Saturday, August 1.
A St Helens Council spokesperson said: "We understand that some people may have been caught in delays during highway maintenance works at the weekend.
"Planned central reservation maintenance on St Helens Linkway was combined with the need to replace accident damaged chevron signs on Cannington Roundabout.
"Although roadworks can be frustrating for motorists, by combining the works in close proximity to each other it reduced the number of days that traffic management was needed."
Some drivers even reported it taking up to 30 minutes to travel up the linkway.
