INDEPENDENT businesses have found lockdown a challenge.

However, one such business which finds its home in the heart of the St Helens community, has used lockdown to transform and bring work to other local firms.

St Helens Star:

Momo's community cafe on Westfield Street has a new frontage, bar and sensory garden all built and provided by local firms and fitted during lockdown.

St Helens Star:

The venue is now open for business with safety measures in place and is looking forward to welcoming back customers.

St Helens Star:

Co-owner Claire Rigby said: "COVID has hit us hard, there's no denying that but when we were forced to close we focused on doing the jobs we wanted on the building to make it better for everyone.

St Helens Star:

"We have a beautiful sensory garden which was provided by Newton-le-Willows firm Swift Pro Landscapes and which can be booked out to reassure the most vulnerable people that they can go to a safe space and be secure.

St Helens Star:

"We also got new frontage and electrics done by Retro Chimps, who are the coolest guys ever, and Albi Lec Services.

St Helens Star:

"It's about supporting St Helens, that's what we are about with what we offer here and in lockdown we were determined to keep supporting St Helens by getting work done by local firms."

Funding came from Liverpool City Region Cares.
