NEIGHBOURS in Lilford Drive in Great Sankey got a surprise when Warrington Rotary Club arrived with gazebos, tables, chairs, tea and coffee plus a selection of biscuits and cakes.
Gazebos were built on three driveways while tea and coffee was served at a social distance.
The event, dubbed a 'Neighbourhood Picnic', is a small free street picnic for neighbours who have not had regular contact to meet during the day during lockdown.
Residents from nearby houses were invited along and soon joined in the conversations.
One lady who is housebound was served tea and biscuits at her door and even rekindled memories with a neighbour from around the corner who she hadn’t seen for more than 20 years.
The picnics are part of Warrington Rotary Club’s aim to help reduce social isolation.
All you need is a couple of driveways in the same street to build a gazebo and the Rotary Club will do the rest.
