MOTORISTS are being warned that months worth of lane closures are set to start on the Rainford bypass from tomorrow.

The Network Rail investment, as part of the Great North Rail Project, will see the railway bridge spanning Rainford Bypass (A570) refurbished and strengthened.

To safely complete the work, lane closures will be in place on Rainford Road between Mossborough Island and Lodge Lane/Bushy Lane from 5pm on Saturday, July 18 until Monday, October 26, 2020.

There will also be six full road closures between 5pm on Saturday to on 6am on Monday on the following weekends:

  • Saturday 18 July to Monday 20 July
  • Saturday 25 July to Monday 27 July
  • Saturday 5 September to Monday 7 September
  • Saturday 12 September to Monday 14 September
  • Saturday 17 October to Monday 19 October
  • Saturday 24 October to Monday 26 October

During the weekend closures, a road diversion will be in place and will be signposted.

Access for pedestrians and cyclists will remain open throughout the project's duration.

Nathaly Oshodin, scheme project manager for Network Rail, said: “I’d like to thank residents and road users in advance for their patience while we complete this major upgrade to the railway bridge over the Rainford bypass.

“The Great North Rail Project investment will secure the bridge’s future for road users below and improve the reliability of rail journeys for rail passengers above.”

Work to refurbish the bridge will take place during a combination of day and night-time shifts.
