THERE is nothing that says a British summer, than the odd day of sunshine enjoyed in a beer garden.

St Helens boasts so many pubs with amazing beer gardens for punters to enjoy a pint in the rays.

Especially after months of lockdown, we know Star readers will be heading out this weekend in the good weather.

So with this in mind we asked our readers to let us know where their favourite beer gardens are in St Helens.

Here is the Top 3 as voted for by Star reader's on Facebook:

1. The Turks Head

St Helens Star:

We lost count of how many Star reader's nominated this top beer garden, so it definitely gets the top spot.

The new pub garden was shared with locals via social media and it's been going down a storm already.

Julie Crehan said: "Turks Head, their new beer garden is fantastic. A lot of hard work has come to fruition. Good social distancing measures in place, great table service from staff, great beers, delicious food. Deserves recognition.."

Star reader's agree with you Julie, so 1st place goes to The Turks Head.

2. Tank Bar on Westfield Street

St Helens Star:

Next on the list is Tank.

From the front, this venue may look unassuming, but once inside and out in the beer garden you've got a cool venue that is very much a favourite haunt of music lovers.

We had more than 40 nominations for this venue's beer garden. Anthony Trantum summed it up when he commented: "Tank Bar, belting bunch of people who always go in there. Staff and owners that go the extra mile and boss selection of craft beers"

3. The Eagle and Child in Billinge

St Helens Star:

It was a close fight between Tank and The Eagle and Child, with Tank narrowly getting a few more votes, but The Eagle and Child is more than worthy of this top 5 list.

John Barker best summed it up for us when he commented: "Eagle and Child at Billinge, what a fantastic beer garden / outdoor bar and entertainment area. If Carlsberg did beer gardens. . . . . . . Enough said."

.......Other honourable mentions in the comments include the popular Mill House in Sutton, The Cricketers Arms, The Red Cat in Crank, The Griffin in Eccleston, The Owls Nest, The Clock Face Hotel and The Starting Gate who received worthy nominations.
