A man has been arrested in Birkenhead after threatening security guards with a knife.
The incident occurred at around 11:30 today, when two security guards attempted to escort a man from the Pyramids Shopping Centre.
Police cordoned off the area outside the precinct, next to Birkenhead market, while investigations were undertaken.
A spokesperson for Merseyside Police said: "We have arrested a man after reports a man was seen carrying a knife in Birkenhead town centre this morning (Monday July 13).
"We were called to The Pyramids just before 11.30am to a report the man who had reportedly behaved anti-socially in the premises had produced a knife while being escorted away by security staff.
"Officers attended and the man was detained a short time later.
"A 37-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of possession of an offensive weapon and a public order offence. He has been taken into custody for questioning.
"There were no reports the knife was used to harm anyone, and enquiries into the incident are ongoing."
