TWO high schools have paid tribute to 13-year-old Jack Worwood after he died following an horrific hit-and-run.

Jack Worwood was left fighting for his life after a Jaguar car ploughed into him on a pavement in Old Road, Ashton-in-Makerfield, at around 4.30pm on Tuesday.

Police confirmed the schoolboy died in hospital on Wednesday afternoon.

Jack had attended Byrchall High School.

Headteacher Alan Birchall said: "The staff and students at Byrchall High School are both shocked and saddened to hear the news of Jack's death.

"Jack, as part of our Byrchall family, will be remembered as a funny, energetic and outgoing young man.

"The thoughts and prayers of the staff and students are with Jack’s family and friends at this sad time."

Jack had recently moved to Byrchall High School, and previously had attended Hope Academy in Newton-le-Willows.

His former headteacher Marie Adams also paid tribute to him.

She said: "The news of Jack’s passing yesterday has shocked our entire Hope community. We remember the funny, charismatic and joyful young man that was Jack.

"Staff and students hold so many wonderful memories. Jack joined our Hope family from Newton-le-Willows Primary School and then moved on to Byrchall High School in November to be closer to home.

"Jack will always remain in our hearts and we feel truly blessed to have known him. Our thoughts and prayers are with Jack’s family and friends at this very difficult time."

A fundraising page has been set up to raise money for Jack's family during this terrible time.
