POLICE are warning residents that crooks are targeting cars on an estate in Haydock.

The sharp rise in offenders trying door handles has prompted officers to issue an alert.

Police say the Ashbury Drive area has been among the places were thieves are lurking.

Car owners are urged to lock their vehicles and keep possessions out of sight.

In a statement police said: “Due to a spike in offender/s trying vehicle door handles, we are advising the residents of Haydock and in particular the Ashbury Drive area to make sure your vehicle/s are locked when unattended with your belongings out of sight.

“Don't make it easy for offenders.”

Anyone with information about suspicious behaviour can contact police on 101 or Crimestoppers 0800 555 111.
