CHILDREN’S playgrounds, outdoor gyms and outdoor ball courts will reopen today as the coronavirus lockdown eases.

However, a series of restrictions will be in place, with the aim of keeping people safe.

Visitors to the outdoor facilities across St Helens will see new posters in parks and green spaces that list the current national restrictions still in place, which are:

  • Remain 2 metres apart from anyone outside your household or your support bubble, and always be considerate to others.
  • One family member accompanying children only where possible, and no groups. This is to help maintain social distancing and allow as many families as possible to use the facilities.
  • If you have disinfectant wipes, consider cleaning equipment where there are obvious touch points such as handles, see-saws, swing chains and climbing bars.
  • Please use your own hand sanitiser gel or wipes to clean your children’s hands as per government advice before and after use of play and outdoor gym equipment.
  • Adults and children should avoid touching their face, and should cough or sneeze into a tissue or arm when a tissue is not available.
  • Keep children from putting their mouths on equipment or their hands in their mouths while using equipment.
  • Dispose of all litter including any used protective wear such as face coverings or gloves properly in litter bins provided. Disposable face coverings and gloves cannot be recycled.
  • No food or drinks to be consumed in play areas.

Merseyside Police have powers to enforce these rules.

St Helens Star:

In a statement, Councillor Andy Bowden, St Helens Borough Council’s cabinet member for environmental services, said: “We’re glad to be able to reopen these valued outdoor facilities, as they’re a source of great enjoyment and physical activity for many local families across the borough.

“But to do so safely and with the risk of COVID-19 still in mind, we’re relying on residents to practice good hygiene and wash or sanitise your hands as we’re all used to now, to follow social distancing rules and to be considerate to others who use these spaces.”

Leisure centres remain closed.
