AN international smash-hit musical is heading to Bolton as part of a unique set of post-lockdown drive-in shows.

As the pandemic struck, SIX was playing to sold out houses in London’s West End.

It is now setto be the first West End show to resume performances after lockdown on a tour of 12 drive-in concert venues around the country, including the University of Bolton Stadium.

Up to 300 vehicles can attend each of the eight Utilita Live From The Drive-In shows between Tuesday, August 18 and Sunday, August 23, with a maximum of seven people allowed in each car.

The vehicles will be separated so occupants have a picnic space alongside.

The musical, which had its opening night on Broadway cancelled when three hours before, the New York governor shut down theatreland, tells the story of Henry VIII’s six wives, who have teamed up as a girl band and are on tour each telling their own stories.

The production has been a huge success with Anne Boleyn’s song Don’t Lose Ur Head, sung in the style of Lily Allen, shared more than half a billion times on Tik Tok. In February, the original cast album surpassed 100 million streams online.

Organisers say fans can “picnic and party as they watch the festival-style full length show live from their own dedicated area next to their vehicle”.

Producer Kenny Wax said: “We are delighted that SIX will spearhead the reopening of one of the UK’s most popular shows.

“With the industry in crisis, theatres struggling and some even going out of business, this drive-in event offers hope for the future and jobs for about 50 of our company including cast, musicians, stage managers, technicians and freelancers.

“We are using both our West End and UK touring casts, rehearsing and touring them in a bubble and having them work in teams of six as per the government guidance.”

Tickets go on sale at 8am on July 3, from livenation.co.uk.
