THE number of people who have been infected with coronavirus since the start of the outbreak in St Helens has reached 765.

Four more cases of COVID-19 have been confirmed in St Helens over the weekend, up to Sunday, June 21.

This takes the cumulative total number of cases since the start of the outbreak in St Helens in mid-March to 765, up from 761 on Friday.

At the start of June there were 754 cases in St Helens, meaning the figure has risen by 11 so far this month. 

This means St Helens has had a rate of infection of 424.9 per 100,000 people.

Meanwhile, Knowsley has had 678 confirmed cases, at a rate of 453.3 per 100,000.

Across the UK there have been 304,331 lab-confirmed cases, with 1,221 recorded in Sunday's figures.

There have been 42,632 deaths related to COVID-19 in the UK, with 43 confirmed on Sunday.
