RUNNING just one 10k can be an arduous enough task.

However, Dave Howarth has managed to run one for 50 consecutive days.

Dave has completed a 10k route each day leading up to his 50th birthday, finishing near to the Gerard Arms pub on Dentons Green Lane.

His last run has been completed today ahead of his birthday, which is on Saturday, June 20.

Dave, who is well known for organising Saints' away day coach travel from the Gerard Arms over the years, has raised more than £5,000 already, which will be split between the St Helens Autism Society and the Steve Prescott Foundation.

He has been joined by different people each day for the runs, including ambassadors of the SPF.

Dave was joined by others including Mike Denning, of the SPF and Tom Jackson, of the autism society for his last run.

Saints' Louie-McCarthy-Scarsbrook, sports presenter George Riley, Neil Prescott and Taylor Prescott have been among those who completed a run with Dave.

St Helens Star:

"I'm obviously made up that it is done, it is quite emotional," said Dave, after his final run.

"Doing 50 in 50 dyas was just an idea I had and I just thought let's see what it can do.

"The support from more than 40 different runners over the last 50 days has been immense in what has been a difficult situation.

"It's tough but it's been nice to do socially distance running and chew the fat with people you haven't seen for 12 weeks.

"It's really helped from a mental health perspective."

Dave added he is looking forward to relaxing and enjoying his 50th birthday with a socially distanced gathering with friends and a few beers.
