AT least 100 mourners turned out to pay their respects to D-Day veteran Ray Rush.

Ex-servicemen and standard bearers were at St Helens Crematorium as the hearse arrived ahead of Ray's funeral.

Mourners formed a guard of honour and The Last Post was played.

Floral tributes to Ray spelled out the words 'Rushy lad' and 'Legend'.

Ray was born in Prescot in 1923, joined the 1st Battalion of the South Lancashire regiment in September 1942 and was part of the first wave landing on Sword Beach, Normandy on June 6, 1944.
