A"FITTING" celebration of the inspirational Chris Carberry's is to be held with a golf day arranged for this summer.

The Chris Carberry Golf Day is to be held on Monday, August 24 at Berrington Hall in Rainford to honour brave battler Chris, who passed away last month.

Chris, from Rainford, died at the age of 24, after a monumental four-and-a-half year battle with the bone cancer, osteosarcoma.

While coronavirus restrictions limited the number of people able to be at the funeral service, hundreds formed a guard of honour for "true diamond" Chris outside St Helens Crematorium, with a balloon release held afterwards.

Another celebration of the life of golf-lover Chris has been planned for later this summer and those wanting to play on the day in memory of Chris are invited to get involved.

It is hoped that at least 30 teams and between 120 and 150 people will be involved in the golf day at Berrington Hall.

The day has been organised by friend Robbie Chisnall, who played golf with Chris as a youngster.

"It is a fitting thing to do for Chris for sure," said Robbie, 25, who was in the year above Chris at school.

"I played golf with Chris when I was a junior member at Grange Park. We played about five times a week when we were younger.

"We finished school, got home, got changed and put on our golf clothes and it was then straight to the golf course. That's what we did quite often.

"I think it's a very good way of giving Chris the send-off that he deserves. He had a good turnout at the Crematorium and hopefully by then we should be back to some sort of normality so that we can celebrate his life together."

Robbie added: "It is all going to Willowbrook, that is where Chris spent his final days and they were really good to Chris and they deserve something out of this."

It is hoped, if possible, for a barbecue to be held at the golf course on the day and there will be a raffle.

The golf day will be a Fourball Betterball format, with cost £150 for a team of four. People are asked to wear red, white or blue, Chris' favourite colours.
