THE St Helens Star has been shortlisted for the second year in a row at the Society of Editors Regional Press Awards 2019.

The newspaper is among the nominees once again up for Free Weekly Newspaper of the Year.

Other nominees include Camden New Journal, Chronicle Week, Islington Tribune, Jewish News and Slough and Windsor Express.

Sister title Warrington Guardian has also been shortlisted for two awards.

They appear in the Paid for Weekly/ Sunday Newspaper of the Year Above 50,000 Monthly Reach category alongside Basingstoke Gazette, Bucks Free Press, Kent Messenger, Maidenhead Advertiser, MEN on Sunday, Newbury Weekly News and The Reading Chronicle.

And for the second year in a row the team has also been shortlisted for the Social Media Team of the Year alongside daily titles including BirminghamLive, ChronicleLive, NottinghamshireLive, Manchester Evening News and WalesOnline.

Celebrating the best of British regional and local newspaper journalism in 2019 for print, online and any other news platform, the awards would have been handed out during a ceremony in London today.

Due to the coronavirus crisis the event was cancelled earlier this year and winners will instead be announced on June 19.
